Written Examination

Those qualifying to take the SCCC written examination must show their certification approval pass, as well as a legally recognized photo ID (preferably a driver's license), in order to take the certification examination.

  1. The written portion of the SCCC certification examination will include questions of both a scientific and practical nature from the following areas:
    • Muscle Physiology
    • Bio-Energetics and Metabolism
    • Neuro-Muscular Concepts
    • Cardio-Respiratory System (Structure and Function)
    • Bio-Mechanical Concepts
    • Responses and Adaptations to Training
    • Aerobic (Endurance) and Anaerobic (Sprint and Interval) Exercise Prescription
    • Program Design/Periodization
    • Free Weight/Machines/High Intensity Training and Techniques
    • Speed Development/Plyometric Training
    • Flexibility/Stretching
    • Nutrition/Supplementation
    • Body Composition/Weight Management
    • Testing, Evaluation, and Goal Setting
    • Facilities/Supervision
    • Protecting the Health and Safety of the Athlete
  2. A Certification Executive Board has been created to prepare the written examination questions. The individuals appointed to this Certification Executive Board are nationally recognized as leaders in their respective fields.
  3. Candidates must pass the examination with a minimum score of 73%.
  4. The CSCCa certification written examination will be administered by independent test administrators/ proctors certified by the National College Testing Association (NCTA).
  5. To become SCCC certified, everyone must take the written portion of the examination.
  6. Special Accommodations for Candidates with Disabilities Available.
    • The CSCCa makes every effort to maintain compliance with the guidelines set by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) by providing the individual with a qualified disability the opportunity to participate in CSCCa certification activities. To request special accommodations, please submit a letter, signed by a qualified health care provided, describing your qualified disability and accommodation needs. The request must be submitted at least 60 days prior to the requested certification exam/evaluation commencement date.
    • For special accommodations other than disabilities, the CSCCa will make every effort to accommodate special needs in respect to certification activities. Any special needs information and requests must be submitted at least 60 days prior to the requested certification exam/evaluation commencement date.
