Dan Dalrymple

In a league of his own as both a student-athlete and coach at Miami University, Dan Dalrymple has left an indelible impression on Miami's athletic tradition. A four-year starter as an offensive lineman for the Miami football team from 1983-86, Dalrymple was a first-team all-MAC selection in 1985 and '86. In 1999, Dan was selected as a member of the Cincinnati Enquirer's all-20th Century Miami football team. Dalrymple was a team captain when the Red and White captured the 1986 MAC Championship. In 2002, Dan joined the likes of other notable Miami graduates such as Bo Schembechler, Paul Brown, Weeb Eubank and Ara Parsegian as a member of the Miami University Athletic Hall Of Fame.

Since becoming Miami's first strength and conditioning coach in December 1989, Dalrymple has guided the development of Miami's strength and conditioning program from the ground up. Coach Dalrymple has been named MAC Strength and Conditioning Professional of the Year three times during his career and has been nominated for the NSCA's National Strength and Conditioning Professional of the Year 4 times. Coach D has also guided 38 Miami student-athletes to NSCA strength and conditioning all-America status. The past 15 years have seen Miami’s strength and conditioning facility grow from a 1000 square foot weight room to the current 10,000 square foot Miami Football Class of 1976 Strength and Conditioning Center. The facility has moved and/or been upgraded 8 times during this period.

During Dalrymple’s tenure, Miami teams have captured over 50 Conference Championships in 19 sports. Most recently, the Miami Football team, with a record of 13-1, finished #10 in the AP’s final poll. This ties for the highest place ever for a Mid-American team. A multitude of student athletes have earned all conference or all American honors and moved on to careers in professional athletics. Many of Miami’s former athletes, including the NBA’s Wally Sczcerbiak, frequently return to Oxford during their off seasons to train under Coach D. In 2003, in recognition of his years of dedication to Miami University, Dan was promoted to the position of Assistant Athletic Director. Besides his work at Miami, Dalrymple has contributed to the field of strength and conditioning through numerous local, state, and national clinic presentations and since 2002, by serving as the State Director of the Ohio Strength and Conditioning Association. Dan is a NSCA Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist with Distinction and holds both Club Coach and Sports Performance Coach Certifications from USA Weightlifting. Dan and his wife of 10 years, Susan, (a Registered Dietician and Instructor at Miami) reside in Oxford.
