David Langworthy
Coach Dave Langworthy is the proud descendant of Andrew Langworthy, who arrived from England in 1642 and he is also the proud son of the greatest man he has ever known --Dave "Puma" Langworthy. Coach Langworthy, like his father, was born and raised in Miami, Florida.Dave got his start in coaching at Florida State University as an assistant, while working on his degree, which he received in 1989. During his tenure there, he served as an assistant with football and as a head strength coach for both baseball and basketball. While at Florida State, Dave met one of his most trusted friends and resources--Tom Shaw.
From there, Dave went to Ohio State University as the head strength coach for basketball under coach Randy Ayers and as the head assistant strength coach for football from 1990 to 2000.
At that point, Coach Langworthy spent 3 years at the University of Pittsburgh, working only with football, until he went to the University of Nebraska where he has been working since 2004.
During his career, Dave has worked with 3 Big Ten champions in football and with teams that have won the Fiesta, Rose and Sugar Bowls. He has also worked with 2 Big Ten champions in basketball and 2 Regional #1 seeds in the NCAA playoffs.
Individually, Coach Langworthy has worked with 24 first round draft picks in football and 4 in basketball. He feels extremely privileged to have had the opportunity to have worked with 2 Biletnikoff, 2 Butkus, 2 Walter Camp, 2 Thorpe, 1 Doak Walker, and 1 Lombardi award winner, in addition to one Heisman and one Outland trophy winner, as well as a UPI basketball player of the year.
As a competitive athlete in his own right, Dave has won Florida state titles in freestyle wrestling, Greco-roman wrestling, and Olympic lifting. He has won a Southern States powerlifting championship and has attained the rank of Shodan--a first-degree black belt in Kenpo karate.
Coach Langworthy would like to extend his appreciation to Coaches Jeff Madden and Tom Moffitt for the influence they have had in his career - as well as to Boyd Epley, a true legend in the field-- who, Dave, has had the opportunity to come to know personally and professionally.
Dave is extremely proud to be presented his jacket by a cerebral pioneer and world record holder - Mike Arthur.
