Ed Ellis

Ed Ellis is in his second season as Georgia Tech’s Director of Player Development, working directly with the football team while overseeing the strength and conditioning efforts of Tech’s 17-sport athletics program.

Ellis, who was honored as the 2000 College Strength and Conditioning Professional of the Year for the Atlantic Coast Conference by the National Strength and Conditioning Association, went to Tech in 2001 after seven years as the head strength and conditioning coordinator at Wake Forest.

Before going to Wake Forest in 1994, Ellis spent four years (1991-1994) as the head strength and conditioning coordinator at Illinois State and two years (1989-1991) as an assistant strength coach at Mississippi. He began his career as a graduate assistant at Arkansas from 1987-1989.

Ellis earned his bachelor’s degree in physical education from Alabama in 1987 and added a master’s degree in education from Arkansas in 1989. An all-Southern Conference performer in the discus and shot put, he held world and national drug-free power-lifting records, including a personal best of 620 pounds in the bench press.

Ellis is married to the former Dyann Edmondston, and the couple has four children, Jessica, Nicole, Eric, and Brian.
