Training for the Fastest 40 Minutes in Basketball

David Deets enters his fourth year directing the strength and conditioning efforts for the Mizzou Men's Basketball program. A native of Newcastle, Okla., Deets spent the previous two seasons in a similar capacity at Oklahoma State University assisting with OSU's Football, Women's Golf and Men's and Women's Tennis programs.

At Mizzou, Deets has directed Missouri's strength and conditioning efforts to help the Tiger play the Fastest 40 Minutes in Basketball. Deets has tutored three National Strength and Conditioning All-Americans, including 2009 All-American Matt Lawrence and has been the featured speaker and state and national conferences. He also recently led a campaign to redesign and update the Sally O. Nichols weight room to create a basketball-specific weight training environment for the Tigers.

Prior to his two-year stint in Stillwater, Okla., Deets, 33, spent two years as an Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach at Texas Christian University. At TCU, Deets oversaw the physical development for TCU's men's basketball, men's and women's golf, tennis, soccer and volleyball programs.

Following a graduate assistantship at Oklahoma State in 2001, the Newcastle, Okla., native earned his first full-time position as the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach at Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, La. Deets oversaw the strength development for NSU's 14 intercollegiate sports.

A 2000 graduate from Northeastern State University in Health and Human Performance, Deets was married to the former Angela Cocannouer in 2005. The couple enjoyed the birth of their first daughter, Emery Rose on June 7, 2007.
