Stephen Whalen

Finding a Voice

Stephen Whalen currently serves as the strength and conditioning coach at The University of Texas at Austin where he oversees the development of the baseball program. He was named strength and conditioning coach prior to the 2016 season. Stephen started at Texas as a graduate intern in August 2014 working with baseball, softball, women’s tennis, rowing, and cheer. In January 2015 he was hired as a part-time assistant working primarily with baseball. From May 2014 to August 2014 Stephen worked at Eastern Michigan University as an intern under Coach Ron McKeefery and his staff.

Other strength and conditioning experience includes time as volunteer strength and conditioning coach from March 2014-May 2014 at Deer Park High School in Houston, TX, working with a variety of sports. Prior to that he worked at Acceleration Training Concepts in Houston, TX training high school athletes.

Stephen played professional baseball for four and half years. Preceding that, he played baseball at The University of Houston as a third baseman and pitcher in 2005 and 2006. He then went on to pitch two years at The University of New Orleans in 2007 and 2008.

He earned his Bachelor’s Degree from The University of New Orleans and is currently working on his Masters of Science in Kinesiology at A.T. Still University. Stephen is a native of Sugar Land, TX.
