Ron Thomson

Strength and Conditioning: Open Forum

At Purdue, Ron works with the football, womenâ??s basketball, baseball, track & field teams. He is a certified strength and conditioning specialist and conditioning coach certified by both the NSCA and Collegiate Strength Coaches Association. He is a graduate of Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo in 1977.

Before coming to Purdue, Ron served as Assistant Strength Coach at Southern Methodist University 1981-85, where the football team participated in 5 bowl games and ranked in the top 10 each year, along with the track & field team winning the 1983 Indoor and Outdoor National championship. In 1985, he served as Assistant Strength Coach at the University of Wyoming, 1986 University of Northern Colorado, as Head Strength Coach and Linebacker Coach, 1986-87 Head Strength Coach at Marshall University, where they played for the 1987 1-AA National Championship. Then as Head Strength and Conditioning Coach at Boise State University 1987-1994, where the football, basketball, track & field teams won numerous conference titles and participated in the National playoffs. He was a 1989 and 1991 Finalist for the NSCA National Collegiate Strength Coach of the Year Award. From 1994-99, Ron served as Head Strength Coach, Track Coach, and Assistant Football Coach at Auburn, AL high school. He was the 1997 NSCA National High School Strength Coach of the Year.

Ron, originally from California, resides with his wife, Joanne, and son, Jon in West Lafayette.
