Randy Gobel

Randy Gobel is the Assistant Director of Performance/Director of Operations for the University of Nebraska Strength and Conditioning program. Randy has been involved with Nebraska Athletic teams for the past 21 years and has worked under the legendary coaches Bob Devaney, Tom Osborne, and Boyd Epley. During this time, he has worked with two Heisman trophy winners—Mike Rozier and Eric Crouch, as well as several Outland, Lombardi, Butkus, and Unitas winners, such as Trev Alberts, Dave Rimington, Dean Steinkuhler, to name a few, and three national championship football teams. His specialty is speed development, which is one of the reasons Nebraska has produced some of the fastest teams in the country.

In addition, Coach Gobel has been instrumental in designing a line of strength training machines for children, as well as for athletes of all ages. He has worked with companies such as Wynmore Fitness, York Barbell, Hammer Strength, Horizon Fitness, and Power Lift in designing proto-types to completion, which are now being marketed and sold by major equipment companies throughout the nation. Many of these designs are also being used in many high school and university weight rooms across the country. He also assisted in developing the timing system for Daktronics, which is used for performance testing for Nebraska sports teams. In addition, he helped develop a portable timing system, which is manufactured by the University of Nebraska’s College of Engineering Department. Randy has designed weight room layouts for a variety of facilities—from multi-million dollar facilities to the smallest home weight rooms. His expertise in facilities and equipment allows Nebraska to have the finest facilities, as well as the most state-of-the-art lifting, training, and testing equipment in the country, providing the athletes with the tools they need to train hard. This has made a tremendous impact on the Nebraska program.

Randy is married to the former Michelle Johnson, and they have a five year-old son, Chase Michael.
