Kelvin Clark
Instrumental in the success of Red Raider football, Kelvin Clark is in his seventh year as Texas Tech’s strength and conditioning coach.
Clark is at home in West Texas after a 22-year absence. He joined the Tech staff in June, 1995, after a five-year stint as head strength coach at Vanderbilt. Characterized as an overachiever coming out of high school, Clark wound up earning collegiate All-America honors at Nebraska and playing seven years in the National Football League.
A 1979 graduate of Nebraska, Clark played three years at Odessa High (1971-73). Jerry Moore signed him to play at Nebraska, where he earned All-America and All-Big Eight honors in 1978. He was named to the All-America strength team as a senior and also was selected Nebraska Lifter of the Year. One of Clark’s most prestigious honors came when he was named to the All-Time Nebraska Team when the elite squad was selected in conjunction with Nebraska’s 100th year of football.
He was drafted in the first round of the 1979 NFL draft by Denver. He spent three years in Denver before playing four years at New Orleans. He joined the Nebraska strength program headed by nationally-recognized Boyd Epley after retiring in 1985 from pro-football.
After five seasons as the top assistant in Nebraska’s nationally-recognized strength program, he took over as head strength coach at Vanderbilt. At Vanderbilt, he helped the football players set strength records in virtually every category.
Clark and his wife, Judy, have one son, Casey Wayne.
