Paul Longo

Paul Longo is in his 17th year of full-time strength coaching in the Big Ten conference. He has been a member of The University of Iowa Strength and Conditioning staff since 1988, with the two years prior to his service with the Hawkeye’s spent at the University of Wisconsin in Madison. During his career, Longo has been a Head Strength Coach for Football, a head Olympic strength coach, as well as an assistant strength coach. He spent 12 years working exclusively for legendary Head Football Coach Hayden Fry’s Iowa Hawkeye football team. During this period, Longo helped the Hawkeye’s to 8 Bowl games including the Rose Bowl, Peach Bowl, Alamo Bowl, Sun Bowl, and Holiday Bowl. From walk-ons to first round Draft choices, Longo has made an impact on many athletes’ careers. In the words of Hayden Fry, “I personally believe that Paul Longo is one of the best Strength Coaches in America.”

Longo is a longtime NSCA member and a charter member of the CSCCa. He received his bachelor’s degree in physical education from Wayne State University in Detroit Michigan. As a four-year starter for the Wayne State football team, Longo was a two-time team MVP, earned all conference honors and became the schools all-time leading pass receiver. Longo signed free agent contracts with the Pittsburgh Steelers in 1982, the Philadelphia Stars of the USFL in 1983, and the Toronto Argos of the CFL in 1984.

Paul and his wife, Shannon, have two children, Anthony, age 6, and Natalie, age 2.
