Vernon Banks

Vern Banks recently completed his third year as an assistant strength and conditioning coach at Texas A&M, his alma mater, Class of '81. He is responsible for assisting with the speed, strength and conditioning of the Aggie football team, as well as coordinating all phases of strength training for the men's and women's basketball teams.

Vern previously spent four seasons (1995-98) as the head strength coach at LSU of the Southeastern Athletic Conference. Prior to that, he spent two seasons as the head strength coach of the NFL's Denver Bronco's (1993-94) and served in the same role with the University of Wyoming in 1992. He was an assistant at the University of Colorado in 1990-91 when the Buffalos won the 1990 national football championship. Coach Banks was also an assistant at Stanford University in 1987-89 and the University of Wyoming in 1986-87. He worked as a graduate assistant at the University of Houston in 1985-86.

A native of Fresno, Texas, Vern lettered in football and track at John Foster Dulles High School in Stafford, Texas. He is a four-time ADFPA state champion powerlifter, winning titles in Wyoming in 1987, in California in 1989 and 1990, and in Texas in 2000 (masters division). Vern is married to the former Mary Weibler of Quebec, Canada, and they have two children: Vernon James (7) and Halle Kristine (4).
