Approved Mentors

The primary goal of the practicum/internship experience is to prepare the candidate to enter the strength and conditioning coaching profession prepared and well-equipped to effectively meet the demands of being a strength & conditioning coach on the collegiate or professional level. To accomplish this goal, the practicum experience includes the following five learning objectives:
(1) Facilities
(2) Programming
(3) Supervision
(4) Organization and Administration
(5) Athlete Health & Safety

Mentors ensure that each intern completes 640 hours. To document completion of the requirement, Mentors will email the Internship Completion Verification Form to the National Office at cert@cscca.org by the published deadline on the Exam Requirements page of the CSCCa website. This form can be found in the Mentoring Booklet.

Approved Mentor Criteria
To qualify as a CSCCa-Approved Mentor, an individual must meet the following criteria:

• Hold a current SCCC Certification
  
  
• Have a minimum of three years full-time experience as a strength and conditioning coach at the collegiate and/or professional level
  
  
• Be currently coaching at a college/university or professional athletic program (NFL, MLB, NBA, WNBA, etc.) 
  
  
• Note: The CSCCa does its best to keep the list of CSCCa-Approved Mentors (see below) up to date, but due to coaching changes, it is the responsibility of the SCCC candidate to confirm with the CSCCa National Office that the individual supervising the practicum/internship is currently CSCCa-approved. Use the following directory of approved mentors when selecting a practicum/internship. SCCC certified coaches with less than 3 years of full-time experience at the collegiate and/or professional sports setting may be considered for Approved Mentor status if they are the only SCCC certified coach at their institution.
  

Approved Mentor Application Applications must be submitted to cert@cscca.org and are closed February 6th-May 31st for testing purposes.
