Then and Now: The Evolution of the Strength Coach Profession

Biography:
Jeff Macy was named Director of Sports Performance at Oregon State University in June of 2013. Macy returned to Oregon State, where he spent two-plus years as the head strength and conditioning coach starting in 2006, after serving in the same role with the NBA's Milwaukee Bucks from June 2008. In his new administrative role at OSU, Macy oversees the Beavers' sports performance staff that works with 500-plus student-athletes in 17 intercollegiate sports. A 1993 graduate of the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs, Macy previously worked in the NBA as the Chicago Bulls' assistant strength and conditioning coach from 2001 through 2006. Macy was the strength and conditioning coach at Bradley University in Peoria, Ill., for nearly four years prior to his appointment with the Bulls. He also is a strength and conditioning consultant. He was the USA Weightlifting National Champion in 1991 and 1993, and was an athlete at the U.S. Olympic Training Center for four years. He participated in the Olympic Trials in 1992 and the World Championships in 1993, and is a former American record holder. Macy is also a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) and a USA Weightlifting Senior Coach.
