Integrating Nutrition Into Sports Performance

Presentation Summary:
This presentation will discuss how to implement nutrition into your sports performance programs from the ground up. We will cover several ideas in how to plan, finance, and develop your performance nutrition programs. The presentation will also cover the role of the registered dietician and how it plays in to the success of the student athlete. We will discuss cost effective ways of hydration, refueling, meal planning, recovery and accountability. Lastly we will cover the importance of integrating strength and conditioning, athletic training, and performance nutrition to benefit performance, and the overall health and the safety of the student athlete.

Biography:
Ryan Davis joined the Samford staff in July 2012 as Head Strength Coach for the Bulldogs football team. In January of 2013 Davis moved into his new role as Director of Strength and Conditioning overseeing all aspects of training and nutrition for all sports.
"I am excited about Ryan joining our staff," Samford Head Coach Pat Sullivan said. "He is a very knowledgeable coach, and he will bring tremendous enthusiasm to our players and to our program."
Davis came to Samford after having served 2 seasons as the assistant strength and conditioning coach for football at the University of Alabama under mentors Scott Cochran and Terry Jones Sr. While at Alabama, he worked with the 2011 BCS National Champion Crimson Tide squad.
In addition to working with the football program at Alabama, Davis also oversaw the strength and con¬ditioning program for women's crew, women's tennis and volleyball. His time at Alabama marked his second stint at the school, as he served as a strength and conditioning intern at Alabama in 2009.
Prior to his return to Alabama, Davis served a short stint at the University of Louisville. He also spent two years as an assistant strength coach at the University of West Florida under the direction of Head Strength Coach Kent Morgan.
Davis earned his bachelor's degree in exercise science from Rowan ¬University in Glassboro, N.J., in 2006. He also earned a master's degree in education from the University of West Florida in 2010.
