CSCCa Statement Regarding Recent Death of University of Maryland Football Player Jordan McNair

13 August 2018

The CSCCa extends its deepest sympathy to the family of University of Maryland offensive lineman Jordan McNair. Furthermore, we are extremely distressed by the media reports regarding the culture of the Maryland Football Program, especially the alleged involvement of the strength and conditioning program. Every athlete deserves a positive, constructive environment in which to work and train to develop his/her full athletic potential safely and effectively. The CSCCa does not in any way condone these reported behaviors as they are not consistent with CSCCa standards of behavior and professionalism. The health and safety of the athlete is the CSCCa's primary concern and is the top priority of the strength and conditioning coach.

We will refrain from making any comment on Coach Court's membership and certification until the investigation is complete. If the investigation corroborates the allegations, the CSCCa will follow its procedures and protocols for taking appropriate disciplinary action (a full copy of the disciplinary policy is available upon request).

It is our sincere hope that this tragedy will result in positive changes to provide our athletes with a safe athletic environment free from fear and intimidation. They deserve nothing less.
