JOB DESCRIPTION: Part-time Strength and Conditioning Intern will report to the Director of Strength, Conditioning, and Sports Performance and collaborate with coaches and staff to achieve the overall mission of Newberry College and the athletic department. This is a paid 29-hours per week position. Compensation includes $1,000 per month, housing, and on campus meals in the cafe. Interns will be allowed to work a part-time job provided it does not conflict with their assigned team’s training schedule and other related Newberry Strength and Conditioning duties.

1. Design, implement, and manage in-season and off-season strength and conditioning programs for multiple men’s and women’s Olympic sports.
2. Assist with the daily operation of the football strength and conditioning program as needed.
3. Communicate daily with sports medicine staff regarding athletes’ health and return to play progress.
4. Collaborate with sport coaches of assigned teams to monitor athlete training loads (including sport-specific training and strength and conditioning) and athletic development.
5. Assist with the daily upkeep and maintenance of two athletic weight rooms.
6. Maintain professional working relationships with athletic training, academics, and respective coaching staffs
7. Other duties, as assigned, relevant to efficiently operating the strength, conditioning, and sports performance program.

The minimum qualifications for this position include a bachelor’s degree — preferably in an exercise science related discipline; certification by the National Strength & Conditioning Association, Collegiate Strength & Conditioning Coaches Association, or USA Weightlifting; and up-to-date CPR/AED/First Aid certification. Candidates must possess outstanding communication skills - both written and oral, have the ability to manage large groups of athletes in a safe and organized manner, possess great initiative, and possess a solution-oriented mindset that maximizes the student-athlete experience.
