Achieving Excellence in Collegiate Strength and Conditioning

Presentation Summary:
Hosted by NCAA Leadership Development and the NCAA Sport Science Institute, this session will help collegiate strength and conditioning coaches achieve excellence within the profession. This session will discuss relevant issues for strength and conditioning coaches including current perceptions and personal branding; career advancement; effective communication within the athletic department; and transitioning to athletics administration.

Biography:
Latrice Sales joined the NCAA in the fall of 2008. She serves as associate director of the NCAA Sport Science Institute where she is responsible for the administration of initiatives and resources focused on health, wellness and safety for collegiate student-athletes, youth and athletics administrators at NCAA member institutions. Her primary responsibilities are sport performance, nutrition, health education and youth sports safety, long-term athlete development. Latrice also serves as editor of the monthly Sport Science Institute Newsletter. In addition to managing corporate wellness and safety initiatives within the National Office; she also serves as liaison to various association-wide committees including the committee on competitive safeguards and medical aspects of sports (CSMAS) and the student-athlete affairs advisory group. She serves as the sport science liaison to external organizations and to NCAA-sponsored leadership development conferences.

Latrice previously held the position of assistant director of health and safety at the NCAA. Prior to moving to Indianapolis, Latrice worked in the Washington, D.C. area conducting corporate fitness and wellness programs.

A native of Charleston, South Carolina, Latrice earned her undergraduate degree at Coastal Carolina University, where she majored in health promotion and business management. While at Coastal Carolina, she competed on the women?s track and field team, where she later coached and worked with the men?s golf team as a student assistant to the strength and conditioning coach. Latrice earned a master?s degree in kinesiology, exercise science at Georgia Southern University. She conducted her graduate research in childhood obesity and implemented a physical activity, fitness and sport program at the Boys & Girls Club of Bulloch County.

Latrice is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (NSCA), First Aid, CPR and AED Instructor (American Red Cross) and certified health fitness specialist (American College of Sports Medicine). She is a professional member of the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches association (CSCCa) and National Association of Collegiate Women Athletic Administrators (NACWAA).
