Screeening for Potential Injury: Science and Opinion

Presentation Summary:
Would you prevent injury if you could? Field tests are often used in an effort to detect weakness, imbalance, and movement dysfunction that might lead to injury. This course will discuss popular screening tests, the evidence that supports them, the gaps in that evidence and briefly discuss strategies to address shortcomings found during screening.

Biography:
Dr Eric J Hegedus is a Professor and the Founding Chair of High Point University's Department of Physical Therapy where he is developing 2 educational degree programs. Dr Hegedus also is also founder and director of Targeted Enhanced Athletic Movement (TEAM), which is a program that allows him to pursue a passion for working with athletes to improve athletic performance and prevent injury in active people.
Another passion for him is learning causing him to return to school way too many times but also to be granted a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from Slippery Rock University, a Master of Health Science in Clinical Research from Duke University, a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Bucknell University, a board specialty in orthopedic physical therapy, and a specialty certification in strength and conditioning. He is currently pursuing his PhD.
Further, Dr. Hegedus, is a productive scholar with more than 40 peer reviewed PubMed articles, 3 book chapters, and a textbook entitled, "Orthopedic Physical Examination Tests: An Evidence-Based Approach", now in its second edition, and translated into 5 languages.
He has a 22-year career as a physical therapist and educator where he is considered an expert in physical examination and diagnosis. Prior to coming to HPU, he had an 11-year career at Duke University including his role of Vice-Chief of the Doctor of Physical Therapy Program.
