Karen Morrison

Keynote Speaker for the Female Strength Coaches Breakfast

Karen Morrison is director of gender initiatives for the National Collegiate Athletic Association and is responsible for overseeing the education of the membership, national office, public, and media on gender issues, Title IX, and women?s professional development and leadership, She is the Association?s primary spokesperson on Title IX and gender issues, emerging sports for women and contact resource for the membership?s senior woman administrators. Morrison joined the NCAA in September 2006 and serves as primary liaison to the NCAA Committee on Women?s Athletics; support liaison to the Executive Committee?s Subcommittee on Gender and Diversity; and spearheads the NCAA Woman of the Year Awards selections. In her short tenure she has redesigned the NCAA?s gender equity resources and web site, directed NCAA forums and convention sessions, and helped the Association manage topics such as life and work balance and policy development for equitable treatment of staff and student-athletes.

Before arriving at the NCAA in September 2006, she served as associate athletics director and senior woman administrator (SWA) at the University of Colorado, Boulder. Morrison managed men?s and women?s skiing, men?s golf, women?s golf, men?s tennis, women?s tennis, volleyball, men?s and women?s cross country/track and field and soccer. She was also responsible for compliance and financial aid; policy development and education; Title IX compliance; tracking NCAA legislation and NCAA certification.

She served on numerous committees at the institution, conference and NCAA levels. NCAA committees include Academics/Eligibility/Compliance Cabinet (1999-2003); Legislative Review and Interpretations Subcommittee (1999-2003); A/E/C Cabinet liaison to the NCAA Financial Aid Committee (2000-2003); Division I Women?s Basketball Committee (2000-05); liaison to the Women?s Basketball Issues Committee (2003-05).

Morrison earned a Juris Doctorate degree from the University of Notre Dame Law School; and a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from the University of Oklahoma.

She is a member of the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics; National Association of Collegiate Women?s Athletics Administrators; Women?s Sports Foundation; and the Women?s Basketball Coaches Association.
