Emily Schilling

In-Season Volleyball: Unifying Strength Training & Sport Practice

Emily Schilling has 13 years of collegiate strength and conditioning experience. She was hired at The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) in September 2016 and was named the Associate Strength and Conditioning Coach for Olympic sports in Fall 2020. In her current role, Schilling directs the design and implementation of the annual training plans comprising volleyball, men's golf and women's golf. Illinois Volleyball has been a four-time NCAA qualifier in her seven seasons with the program. Illinois Men’s Golf has been a five-time Big Ten champion and NCAA qualifier in her six seasons with the program. Other sports trained during her tenure at Illinois include women’s basketball and women’s tennis. Among these sports, she has coached 10 All-Americans. While at Illinois, Schilling has held the responsibility of hiring and mentoring paid part-time assistants, strength and conditioning assistants, and volunteer assistants. Prior to her time at Illinois, Schilling spent July 2014 to September 2016 as an assistant at Hofstra University where she was responsible for the development of women's basketball, softball, women's soccer, men's and women's tennis, and women's golf. Schilling served as assistant at Villanova University from May 2013 to July 2014 implementing strength and conditioning programs for women’s volleyball, men and women’s rowing, men’s golf and the track and field throwers. She also assisted with football and men's and women's lacrosse. From May 2010 to May 2013, Schilling served as a volunteer assistant at the University of Northern Colorado. She led the design and implementation of the strength programs for men and women’s track and field and women’s swimming and diving while assisting with football and several other Olympic sports. Schilling earned a bachelor’s degree in exercise and sport science from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse in 2010 and a master’s degree in biomechanics from the University of Northern Colorado in 2013. She holds certifications from the NSCA (CSCS & RSCC), CSCCa (SCCC), Titlist Performance Institute (Level 3), and Precision Nutrition (Level 1).
