Dr. Felix Proessl

Felix Proessl, PhD, CSCS is the Director of Sports Science in the University of Pittsburgh Athletic Department and an adjunct faculty in the School of Health and Rehabilitation Science. Dr. Proessl joined the Panthers’ Athletic Department in 2022 after completing his doctoral studies at the University of Pittsburgh’s Neuromuscular Research Laboratory while simultaneously working with Pitt’s Men’s Soccer program. Prior to Pittsburgh, Dr. Proessl earned a Master’s degree in Health and Exercise Science at Colorado State University in Fort Collins, CO while working as a graduate research assistant at the Integrative Neurophysiology Laboratory and volunteering for the women’s soccer team. During his undergraduate at Hastings College in Hastings, NE, Dr. Proessl competed for the school’s soccer program while double-majoring in Exercise Science and Economics. Born and raised in Germany, Dr. Proessl also gained practical experience at Borussia Dortmund and VFL Bochum. With an interest in neuroscience and human performance optimization, Dr. Proessl published over 20 peer-reviewed articles in journals such as Experimental Brain Research, Brain Research, Journal of Neurophysiology, Journal of Neurotrauma, Brain Stimulation, the Journal of Applied Physiology or the Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research and is an advocate for data-informed decision making during the day-to-day operations within athletic teams.
