Ruf was a member of the football team and was a student athletic trainer at Luther College, where he received undergraduate degrees in Health and Physical Education.

Chris would like to thank all the athletes he has been privileged to work with. They inspire daily and have been the best teachers one could hope to have. He would also like to thank the coaches that have influenced him in any way, including Matt McGettigan for taking him under his wing and serving as a great role model and mentor; Ron McKeefery and Rich Lansky for the timely opportunities; and Kaz Kazadi for being a great leader and friend. The Baylor Athletic Performance family past and present deserve special thanks for their hard work, enthusiasm, and dedication. Most importantly, Chris would like to thank his family, including his parents Daniel and Laurie for teaching integrity, work ethic, and perseverance; and his wife Megan and their daughters Madison and Abigail for their never ending love, support, laughter, and smiles.
