Tim Kontos

Head

Tim Kontos is in his 17th year as Director of Sports Performance for Virginia Commonwealth University, beginning his career there in 1998 as a part-time employee working out of a 1,000 square foot basement weight room. Since then, he has since become the Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Performance with three full-time employees and two graduate assistants, overseeing 16 of VCU's 17 sports. Their operations are conducted out of a 10,000 square foot Sports Performance facility.

Kontos holds multiple certifications through the CSCCa, the NSCA, USA Weightlifting, and USA Track and Field, and is a Functional Movement Screen Practitioner. He designs, implements, and supervises all strength, speed and agility programs for The Rams' Women's Volleyball, Baseball, and the Sprint and Jumps portion of the Track teams.

A firm believer in leading by example, Kontos is a competitive power lifter with competition lifts of 560 squat, 435 bench press, and 565 deadlift. He and his staff work collaboratively with members of the Sports Medicine Staff, the team Sports Psychologist, and the sports nutritionist to provide a holistic approach to nutrition, rehab, and sports specific training.

A 1997 graduate of Radford University with a Bachelor's degree in Physical Education, Kontos spent two years as strength and conditioning coach for the University�??�?�¢'s ice hockey team, supervising off-ice workouts for speed and strength training while coordinating the team's nutrition program.
Kontos and his wife, Angie, have two children Alexa, 12 and Zane 10.
