Molli Munz

Director of Athletic Performance/Olympic Sports, Michigan State University

Munz is in her third year as the Director of Athletic Performance for the Olympic sports and her 15th year as a strength coach at Michigan State. Molli oversees the daily operations of the Jenison weight room and leads a staff of four full-time strength coaches along with several graduate assistants. Combined, her staff works with 17 of Michigan State's 21 varsity programs. Munz currently directs the yearly training program for the MSU men's soccer, baseball, women's tennis and novice rowing teams.

In May 2020, Munz was named Master Strength & Conditioning Coach by the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Associated (CSCCa), the highest honor given in the strength and conditioning coaching profession. She is also a certified strength and conditioning coach (SCCC) by the CSCCa and is a certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist by the National Strength and Conditioning Association.

In 2002, Munz began her strength and conditioning career as a graduate assistant for Michigan State University and in 2008 she returned as a full-time assistant. When Munz first returned to MSU she worked with our highly competitive and successful men's soccer team and in 2015, Munz was able to return to training them. In 2018, the men's soccer program had a historic run to its first College Cup and in 2017 reached the Elite Eight. Back in 2008, the team won the Big Ten Tournament championship as well as the regular season title.

Munz has been training the Spartan baseball team since she arrived in 2008. She has developed and trained over 35 selections in the Major League Draft and was an integral part of the 2011 Big Ten Regular-Season title.

From 2012-2016, Munz trained the Spartan volleyball team. During those years, the team made the NCAA Tournament 4 out of 5 years, made two NCAA Sweet Sixteen appearances and beat the defending National Champion UCLA on its home floor during the NCAA Tournament in 2012.

Before returning to Michigan State, Munz took a tour around the Big Ten Conference. She was an assistant coach at the University of Michigan for two and a half years and while there, she oversaw the strength & conditioning programs for nine teams. Prior to arriving in Ann Arbor, she spent a year as a professional intern with the Olympic sports at The Ohio State University.

Originally from Bellefontaine, Ohio, Munz earned her Bachelor of Science in Health-Fitness from Central Michigan University. While obtaining her degree, she was a four-year starter and two-year captain of the women's basketball team. After Munz finished her basketball career, she got her start in strength and conditioning at Michigan State as a graduate assistant. While working for the Spartans, she earned her Master of Science degree in Kinesiology.

She married the former Amy Szawara, a Michigan State softball alum, and the couple have two children, Maci and Maverick.
