Ken Mannie

Head S&C Coach, Michigan State University

Ken Mannie is currently in his 25th year (1995-present) as the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach for Michigan State University. He is a 45 yr. coaching veteran and the longest tenured head football strength and conditioning coach in the Big Ten Conference. His immediate responsibilities are with the football team, while concurrently overseeing the organization and administration of the physical development procedures for the entire athletic department.

Ken served in a similar capacity for nine years (1985-1994) at the University of Toledo (OH) prior to his appointment at Michigan State. He was a graduate assistant at The Ohio State University (1984-1985) and also taught and coached at the high school level for ten years (1974-1984).

Ken received his Bachelor's Degree in Physical Education/Health Education from the University of Akron (OH) in 1974. He obtained his Master's Degree in Exercise Science from The Ohio State University in 1985 and has completed additional graduate work in Guidance and Counseling from The University of Dayton. Ken is certified with the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches association (SCCC-2001) and The National Strength and Conditioning Association (CSCS-1986).

Ken has written over 300 articles for numerous professional journals and newsletters and several book chapters on strength/conditioning, speed development, skill development, nutrition, drug abuse, and motivation. He has written a monthly column for COACH and ATHLETIC DIRECTOR, the nation's premier coaching publication, since 2000.

Ken has served as both a speaker and roundtable participant at several national conferences and seminars, including the CSCCa and the NSCA.
