MSCC Class of 2002

Bill Gillespie

Head, University of Washington

Bill Gillespie is in his 11th year as strength and conditioning coach at the University of Washington, and his 3rd year as the Director of Strength and Conditioning. In his three years as head strength coach, the football team has gone to three bowl games (Holiday, Rose, and the Holiday Bowl again). During the past three years, the Huskies football team has won 23 games where they have come from behind or have won the game in the 4th quarter. After the 2001 Rose Bowl win, the Huskies finished 3rd in both national polls at the completion of the season.

Prior to joining the staff at the University of Washington in 1991, Bill spent 3 years as the assistant strength and conditioning coach at Liberty University under his mentor, Dave Williams. Before becoming a full-time assistant strength and conditioning coach at Liberty University, he spent 5 years in a dual position as both assistant strength and conditioning coach and assistant track & field coach. The final year, Bill was the interim Head Track & Field coach at Liberty, finishing top 20 in the national championships, (not a bad ranking as they didn't even have a track at the time).

Bill is certified both SCCC and CSCS.

As a former collegiate athlete, Bill was a 4 time All-American in track and field and was selected outstanding student-athlete of the year his senior year at Liberty University. Bill now competes in power lifting and has been national champion numerous times, setting many American records. Recently, he has won 7 world championships in the bench press, setting 16 world records with a personal best of 639 pounds.
