James Frazier

Director of Strength & Conditioning, Harvard University

James Frazier started his role as the Crimson's Director of Strength and Conditioning in February 2009, with 2022-23 representing his 15th season at Harvard. In the Fall of 2021, Frazier added The James Herscot '58 Coach of Excellence to his title for the 2021-22 academic year after he and his staff provided student-athletes with exemplary leadership and mentorship during the COVID-19 pandemic, demonstrating adaptability and compassion over the course of a year unlike any other.

Frazier oversees all strength and conditioning aspects for the nation's largest Division I athletic department with roughly 1,200 student-athletes.

The Palmer Dixon building hosts the strength and conditioning staff and boasts 24,000 square feet and the capability to accommodate large teams under one roof. The building is named for William Palmer Dixon '25, who was a two-time national squash champion, a former president of the Harvard Varsity Club and a longtime supporter of Harvard's athletics program.

Frazier was awarded one of Harvard's 2011 Dean's Distinction awards which honors outstanding Faculty of Arts & Sciences staff members whose hard work and skillful collaboration have made a lasting difference for the department.

Frazier came to Harvard from the University of Iowa where he served with the Hawkeyes' football program for two seasons while earning a master's degree in administration from Central Michigan University.

No stranger to the Ivy League, Frazier is a 2006 graduate of Brown University where he earned a degree in business economics and human biology. Frazier was a four-year football letterman at Brown, where he served as team captain as a senior while helping his team to a 9-1 record. Frazier played defensive end as a junior, earning all-conference honors. He moved to linebacker as a senior and repeated as a first-team all-conference selection.

Prior to his stint at Iowa, Frazier served as a strength and conditioning intern with the NBA's Chicago Bulls.

Frazier is a certified member of the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association.
