MSCC Class of 2015

Cori Metzgar

Director of Strength and Conditioning

Cori Metzgar, in her 4th year as the Director of Sports Performance at Western Oregon University, works directly with Football, Volleyball, Soccer, Men's and Women's Basketball, Baseball, and Throws.

She began her career as a G.A. at Western Michigan University and after finishing her Master's began working under Coach Anthony Glass at Ohio State University as a Professional Intern. After one year at OSU, she spent the next 5 at Colorado State University as the Head Assistant for Football and worked directly with Volleyball, Swimming & Diving, Softball, Tennis, and Track. From CSU, she spent the next 5 years at Washington State University, working 3 years as an Assistant and then as Associate Head Strength and Conditioning Coach. She was directly in charge of Baseball, Volleyball, Swimming, Soccer, and Rowing. The opportunity to become a Head Strength Coach came in 2011 at Western Oregon University.

Cori has had the opportunity to present at The Lithuanian Olympic Swim Clinic, as well as at the Nike Football Coach of the Year Clinic, and has been blessed to work with many successful collegiate, Olympic, and Professional athletes. But she feels most fulfilled by the hundreds of athletes she has coached and mentored who have gone on to be successful in their careers and personal lives as a result of becoming stronger physically AND mentally during their time as an athlete.

Born in Juneau, Alaska, Cori was a Downhill Ski Racer and Soccer player at Fort Lewis College, where she found her passion for this field as a student Strength Coach after a back injury forced her to stop athletics. Cori currently holds certifications from the CSCCa, NSCA, and USAW.

Professionally, she'd like to thank her many mentors and colleagues who have helped shape her as a coach on this journey, including, but not limited to: Anthony Glass, Greg Scanlan, Jim Lathrop, David Lang, Rob Oviatt, Kim Badgeley, Marco Candido, and Michael Silbernagel. Lastly, she'd like to thank her family-parents Ron and Beverly, brothers Charlie and Cam, and her daughter Reba-for their unconditional love and support.
