MSCC Class of 2015

Lance Sewell

Strength and Conditioning Coach

Over the past 20 years, Lance Sewell graduated from Baylor University with a Bachelor's degree in Health and Fitness and has transitioned into a full-time strength and conditioning coaching position currently serving at The University of Tennessee.
He became interested in a career in strength and conditioning after hearing guest lecturer Robb Rogers in an exercise physiology class. As a result, Sewell became a student volunteer at Baylor and upon graduating was offered an intern position with the Chicago White Sox under Vern Gambetta.

Upon completion of his internship with Gambetta, Sewell had the opportunity to join John Stucky's staff as a graduate assistant strength and conditioning coach while pursuing his master's degree in sports management at the University of Tennessee. Sewell spent two years working and learning from Coach Stuckey, as well as assistant coaches Tom Moffitt and Tony Ollison. Additionally, Sewell gained valuable knowledge from his fellow GA coaches: Noel Durfey, Jason Elkin, Johnny Long, Robb Phillips, and Tommy Stuckey.

After graduating from the University of Tennessee, Sewell joined the Cincinnati Reds as their Director of Conditioning. While working in professional baseball, Coach Sewell began educating professional baseball players on the importance of a sport specific strength and conditioning plan designed to enhance performance while minimizing the risk of injury.

Following his experience in the MLB, Coach Sewell returned to the collegiate level as the baseball strength and conditioning coach at the University of Miami, allowing him to assist one of his former Baylor classmates, Head Strength and Conditioning coach Andreu Swasey, who was the head strength and conditioning coach, as well as Victor Ishmael and Dave Richardson.

In 2004, Sewell was hired by Jeff Madden to serve as the baseball strength and conditioning coach for the University of Texas- a position he still holds today. In addition to his baseball duties, Sewell assisted Coach Madden with football his first four years in Austin. He has also coached women's track and field, women's golf, softball, and cheer.
