Jay Andress

Associate AD for Strength & Conditioning, Cornell University

Jay Andress has been at Cornell since 2006, and has been the Director since 2015. In his role as Director of Strength and Conditioning he is responsible for supervising all day to day operations of the department and Strength and Conditioning staff. Andress is directly responsible for training men’s basketball, wrestling, softball, baseball, track & field — jump events, and assists in training football. While at Cornell he has also coached women’s basketball, field hockey, women’s rowing, men’s tennis, and sprint football. Andress’ teams and athletes have claimed over 15 league championships, 9 individual national championships, and over 40 all-American honors.

Andress arrived at Cornell from Velocity Sports Performance in Alexandria Va. At Velocity, Andress coached athletes ranging in ability level from youth to professional. Andress previously coached at the University of North Carolina as an intern in the strength and conditioning department. While at UNC he coached the Tar Heel football team consisting of over 15 NFL draft picks, as well as the 2006 Final Four women's basketball team.

Andress is a 2005 graduate of Bloomsburg University where he graduated with a B.S. in Exercise Science, and a 2010 graduate of SUNY Cortland with an M.S. in Sports Management. Andress is an approved mentor through the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association, where he is SCCC certified. Andress has also obtained CSCS certification through the National Strength and Conditioning Association, and is a certified sport performance coach through USA Weightlifting.
