MSCC Class of 2013

Cedric Walthaw

Head S&C Coach

Cedric grew up on a farm in Bessemer, Alabama. He was the youngest of 8 brothers and 4 sisters. His family instilled in him a great work ethic, integrity, and values. Cedric quickly gravitated toward football and began tackling (or being tackled) in the yard with his brothers. Cedric would go on to play starting linebacker for McAdory High School, the same school at which Bo Jackson played. During this time, Cedric was inspired by his high school football coaches: Terry Brazil and Dick Atchison.

When it was time to make a college decision, Cedric committed to Southern Miss. He played linebacker, and, as he would tell it, had an impressive football career. It was at Southern Miss that he met many great people in his life who would turn out to be great mentors, motivators, and friends: people like Tyrone Nix, Fred Brock, and Fred Tate.

After completing college, it was time to get serious. Cedric received a call from Matt Riley of Middle Tennessee State, asking him if he'd like to come there as a Grad Assistant. After deliberating, Cedric decided it was a great decision, and it was time to go to Middle Tennessee! Cedric spent a great 10 years at Middle Tennessee-learning from and working with some great coaches, including: Matt Riley, Robb Rodgers, Darren Edgington, and Jason Spray. Cedric worked with all sports in many capacities.

Cedric moved on to be the Director of Strength and Conditioning at North Carolina A&T, where he is presently. His career has included four NIT tournaments, one NCAA tournament, and one Division I conference championship. Cedric feels blessed to have been called into the field of strength and conditioning and hopes to continue on this path for many years to come. He would like to personally recognize Robb Rogers, Terry Jones, and Donny Maib for all their mentorship and guidance.

Cedric is married to his college sweetheart, Aimee. They have 2 beautiful daughters. He appreciates all of their support and encouragement over the years.
