Sonya Woods

Director of Olympic Sports , Coastal Carolina University

Sonya Woods, the director of Olympic sports for speed, strength and conditioning at Coastal Carolina, was named a Master Strength and Conditioning Coach by the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches association (CSCCa) in May 2020.

The honor of Master Strength and Conditioning Coach is the highest given in the strength and conditioning coaching profession.

Woods came to Coastal Carolina in 2008 after serving as a sports performance specialist at Athletic Republic of Charlotte in 2007. During her time at Coastal, she has worked her way up to associate director of strength and conditioning and now serves as the director of speed, strength and conditioning for the Olympic sports.

She was the assistant strength and conditioning coach at Winthrop University from 2004-07 and worked directly with 10 of the Eagles' athletic programs while also assisting with all of the teams. As a graduate student at Winthrop, she worked with the women's basketball program aiding with workout programs and all aspects of the program.

Certified by the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association, Woods earned both a bachelor's degree in sport management in 2001 and a master's degree in physical education in 2007 from Winthrop.
